We believe community is everything. It’s where we grow, connect, and feel like we belong. For many NDIS participants, getting involved in community life is not just about having fun; it’s about building confidence, making friends, and discovering what is possible.
Meet Fets: Community Engagement Coordinator
That’s where Fets comes in. As the Community Engagement Coordinator, Fets brings the heart, hustle, and creativity behind the programs that help our participants thrive. From art workshops to group outings across Melbourne, he's the guy behind the scenes making it all happen — with purpose and passion.
We sat down with Fets to learn more about what drives him, what his day looks like, and why he believes everyone deserves to feel included.
From Support Worker to Inclusion Champion
Inspiring Community Engagement
“Before stepping into this role, I was a support worker. My favorite part was watching participants build real friendships out in the community. Now, as Community Engagement Coordinator, I get to take it to the next level. I create fun activities that bring people together, help them grow, build confidence, and make lasting memories. Community is what the world runs on, and I believe everyone deserves to feel included, supported, and like they belong. That’s what inspires me.”
A Day in the Life: Equal Parts Fun and Purpose
The Rhythm of Fets' Day
“A typical day is a mix of busy and serious fun! I start by coordinating with our Relationship Managers regarding participants attending activities. I also handle ticket bookings, plan the day, and consider the skills we can help participants build—social confidence, independence, or just having fun. I also create our monthly calendars and activity guides, keeping a pulse on what’s happening in Melbourne. I’m often out at activities, ensuring everyone feels supported. No two days are the same, and that’s what I love about it!”
One Moment That Meant Everything
Unforgettable Art Workshop Experience
“Our Art Workshop community is unforgettable. We started it about a year ago. It's more than a class; it’s a hub of creativity, confidence, and connection. A proud moment was when participants ran their own art market stall at Cranbourne West Community Hub. They worked hard for six weeks creating pieces. When I told them about the stall, they were ecstatic! They decided to donate the $286 they raised to the RSPCA. That decision showed so much generosity and community spirit. It was about teamwork, purpose, and growth.”
Why High Hopes Is Different
The Heart of High Hopes Services
“The team here is incredible. Every person, from support workers to Relationship Managers, really cares. We uplift each other to ensure our participants feel supported. There’s creativity, laughter, and pride in what we do. We don’t just show up, we step up! This place feels like a community, not just a workplace.”
Some Fun on the Side
Fun Facts About Fets
“I’ve got two cats and have never owned a dog! I love DJing, going to the gym, and playing video games. I’m competitive, whether it’s a gym challenge or trivia night. If we ever end up on opposite teams… just know I play to win!”
Words of Encouragement for Participants and Families
A Message to the Community
“Be curious. Step out of your comfort zone. Always check in with yourself: ‘Is this right for me?’ Community starts with connection, beginning with speaking up. Don’t hesitate to try new things or ask for help. There’s always someone willing to support you—whether it's me, a support worker, or another team member. You might discover something amazing when you take that first step.”
Looking Ahead: Fets’ Vision for the Future
Building Future Opportunities
“I envision this role evolving to focus on building more trusted and connected communities. I want to create opportunities for participants to travel, learn, and grow together. No one thrives in isolation. Whether it’s a first outing or a long-term goal, I want to create moments that remind people they belong and that they can achieve more than they ever imagined.”
Inclusion Starts with People Like Fets
Fets reminds us that inclusion isn’t just a policy; it’s something we build moment by moment, activity by activity, relationship by relationship. Through his creativity, empathy, and dedication, he’s helping shape a community at High Hopes where participants don’t just take part; they flourish.
