Vesna’s Story: Leading Growth and Engagement in Disability Services at High Hopes

Meet Vesna: community builder, fierce advocate, and the heart behind many of our favourite programs.

Long before she stepped into her current role as Growth & Engagement Lead, Vesna was already laying the groundwork for what High Hopes would become.

She wasn’t brought in with a title or a roadmap. She was there at day one — boots on the ground, working as a support worker, then stepping into a Relationship Manager role. Over the years, she’s seen the organisation grow, evolve, and refine its mission. But the heart of it has never changed.

“What inspired me to take on the Growth & Engagement Lead role was seeing the pure dedication and heart from my now colleagues. I wanted to contribute in a different way. High Hopes has always been about inspiring, empowering, and celebrating — and I knew I could help bring that to more people.”

This role wasn’t a promotion. It was a natural next step in a journey she’s been building from the inside out.

A Week in the Life

There’s no set rhythm to Vesna’s workweek — and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Some days, she’s mapping out the next community engagement calendar or writing social media posts. Other days, she’s out in the community buying tickets for group outings, planning expo appearances, or connecting with families to hear what they want to see next.

“Every week is different, which keeps things interesting. And I really love seeing the impact we’re making.”

From logistics to relationships, she wears many hats — and each one is worn with care.

Bringing the Community to Life

Vesna is the type of person who sees potential in every interaction — especially when it comes to the participants themselves.

“What I enjoy most is seeing our community come alive. When participants step out of their comfort zones or even facilitate activities themselves — that’s what makes it all worthwhile.”

She’s not just planning activities. She’s helping build confidence, connection, and pride.

Moments That Matter

There are a lot of moments Vesna could list as proud ones, but one stands out.

“A participant showed interest in facilitating a program. We gave him the tools and space to do it — and he succeeded.”

That moment wasn’t about the event itself. It was about what it represented: growth, empowerment, and trust. The kind of trust Vesna works hard to earn every day.

Relationships, Built on Trust

Whether she’s engaging with community partners, families, or participants, Vesna brings the same mindset — listen first, act second.

“I focus on trust, communication, and really listening.”

She doesn’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. She believes in genuine, ongoing conversations that lead to meaningful outcomes.

“For me, it’s all about creating genuine connections and working together to make a positive difference.”

What High Hopes Means to Her

For Vesna, High Hopes isn’t just where she works — it’s something she’s proud to stand behind.

“I’ve watched it grow into something beautiful. We truly inspire, empower, and celebrate our participants.”

What stands out most to her is the collective effort: support workers, RMs, admin, recruitment, Growth & Engagement, and leadership all moving together with one shared purpose.

“Every part of High Hopes is about doing good for good’s sake — and that’s what I admire most.”

A Bit About Vesna: Fierce, Focused, and Fearless

Ask her colleagues, and they’ll tell you — Vesna gets things done.

“They call me Erin Brockovich. I’m straight to the point and fiercely determined. If you want something done, I’m your girl.”

She brings that same fire to her advocacy work. And while she might do things differently, she sees her differences as strengths.

“I’m dyslexic, so I work a bit differently. Some might see that as a struggle, but I see it as a superpower.”

It helps her think creatively, problem-solve with agility, and see things from perspectives others might miss.

For Anyone New to the NDIS

Starting with the NDIS can be overwhelming — Vesna knows that. But she also knows there’s always a way forward.

“Take it one step at a time and don’t be afraid to ask questions.”

Her advice? Get clear on your goals. Speak up. Share your ideas. Surround yourself with the right people — people who will actually listen and guide you without judgment.

“NDIS is there to help you live your best life. Take the time to explore your options and connect with the right people.”

What Engagement Really Means

Engagement isn’t just a task on Vesna’s list. It’s the core of her work.

“Engagement means participants feel included, heard, and empowered.”

She brings that to life by inviting feedback, running surveys, planning inclusive events, and building programs that reflect the voices of the people they’re for.

“It’s not just about turning up. It’s about giving participants the chance to shape their own experiences.”

Looking Forward: Growth with Purpose

Vesna’s vision for the future is as bold as it is clear.

“I want to bring in new programs, build stronger partnerships, and use feedback to make what we offer even better.”

But she’s not only focused on expanding programs — she also wants to support and mentor her team.

“Sharing what I’ve learned since day one is part of how I see this role evolving. Growth doesn’t just happen. We build it together.”

This is Vesna. This is Growth, Done Right.

From support worker to RM to Growth & Engagement Lead, Vesna has grown with High Hopes every step of the way — and brought the community with her.

Whether you're a participant, family member, or community partner — Vesna’s here to help you get involved and make it matter.
